Cut a ringtone
Take a 20–30 second chorus out of a song, starting with a fast cut to get the clip quickly.
Guide
Audio Cut and Merge takes a section out of one recording, or joins several recordings into one in a chosen order. The panel has three sub-tabs — “Cut”, “Merge” and “Pitch” — and this page focuses on the first two: cutting offers “Fast (lossless)” or “Exact (re-encode)”, and merging lets you tick several files, move them up and down, and set a silent gap between clips.

When the selected files can be joined directly and the gap is 0, the merge is a lossless stream copy; as soon as the formats differ or the gap is greater than 0, everything is resampled to 44.1 kHz stereo and re-encoded, with MP3 or M4A as the output format. The pitch tab shifts pitch with asetrate and compensates the speed with atempo, over a range of −12 to +12 semitones.
| Input | Output | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A five-minute MP3, of which only 00:35–01:10 is wanted | Fast cut → about a 35-second clip |
The cut point can be off by up to a frame, under 0.1 s |
| Three interview recordings with a 0.8 s pause between them | Reordered + 0.8 s gaps → one MP3/M4A |
Inserting a gap triggers re-encoding |
Take a 20–30 second chorus out of a song, starting with a fast cut to get the clip quickly.
Merge multiple recordings in order, leaving a natural 0.5–1 second pause between them.
When mixed formats cannot be copied directly, let the workspace resample them and produce one M4A.
Files of the same format with no inserted silence can have their streams concatenated; different formats or a silent gap require decoding, resampling and re-encoding.
Audio files are handled only locally in the browser by ffmpeg.wasm and are never uploaded; the first use of the workbench downloads about 31–32 MB of engine from the site's asset domain or jsDelivr.
