HD Background Removal (remove.bg) sends a portrait, product or animal photo to remove.bg's official endpoint https://api.remove.bg/v1.0/removebg and returns a PNG with a transparent background. The request goes straight from the browser with an X-Api-Key header and size=auto (the highest resolution your account allows), and the result is compared with the original through a split-line slider.

It is a cloud BYOK tool: this site provides no quota, so you need to register with remove.bg and put your key in the settings. If you would rather not register or upload the image, Smart Cutout in the image workbench is the local, offline option (the model is downloaded once and then runs in the browser with no per-use limit), and the page points to that alternative as well.

Smart Cutout runs an AI model locally in the browser (one model download, then offline, unlimited and with no upload); this tool hands the image to remove.bg in the cloud, which usually gives better edges but needs a key and credits.
That is governed by remove.bg's privacy policy. This site only connects your browser directly and never handles or stores any image.
Removing a background does not change who owns the copyright or the likeness in the original: you need the right to use that image, and consent for anyone recognisable in it. remove.bg's own terms govern its output.
The whole image and your remove.bg API key go straight from the browser to api.remove.bg for processing; this site neither handles nor stores them. The key is kept in this session's memory only until you turn on Remember key. For photos of faces or documents, prefer the local Smart Cutout.
