The phone spirit level reads beta and gamma from device orientation events, subtracts the locally saved calibration zero and drives the bubble. The current implementation treats both axes as “level” when their absolute values are below 0.5°, and the bubble shows a full scale of about ±15°.

Calibration only subtracts the current beta and gamma from later sensor readings; it does not modify the device's system sensors.
